How to boil an egg

Ingredients
  • 1 medium RSPCA Assured egg at room temperature
Method
  • Fill a small saucepan with enough water to submerge the egg completely.
  • Bring the water to a boil.
  • Carefully slide the egg into the water.
  • Adjust the heat to a gentle boil (constant small bubbles breaking the surface).
  • For a set white and runny yolk, boil the egg for six minutes.
  • For a hard-boiled egg, boil it for nine minutes.
  • Remove the egg from the saucepan and place it in cold water to stop the egg from cooking further.
